لرَّبْلُ من النباتات البرية الحولية (التي تنبت كل سنة من جديد) لكنها تظهر في السنة عدة مرات وهي من عائلة لسان الحمل (Plantaginaceae)
لها أوراق رمحية كاملة الحافة يغطيها شعريات حريرية،
وتخرج الأوراق من ساق النبات القصيرة قرب سطح التربة ويخرج من وسطها الشماريخ الزهرية ذات العنق الطويل التي تحمل الأزهار في شكل سنبلي في نهاية الحامل الزهري. ويغطي أوراقها شُعَيْرات حريرية،
وتظهر أزهارها مابين شهر فبراير وأبريل وهي بلون بني مخضر. وتنتشر الرَّبْل في كثير من البلدان العربية كمصر والأردن وفلسطين والجزيرة العربية والعراق وسوريا وكذلك إيران وتركيا وقبرص.
تعتبر الرَّبْل من النباتات الرعوية الجيدة لجميع الحيوانات وخاصة الأغنام والماعز.
